Overvoltage category III

Posted by: larsge on

HI,

I am wondering if it is possible to design a 24VDC 100W universal ac input with overvoltage category III with PI devices?

Best Regards

Hi,

They answer is yes, you can.

With constraint for OVCIII, you will need to keep enough clearance/creepage on your input side, transformer, and optocoupler (If you use it). From the IC point of view, the voltage is related with the bus capacitor, the voltage categary will degrade to OVCI with big bus capacitor.

Is the fluxlink technology capable to withstand OVCIII, too?

Hi ttauch,

The PI standard design rule is for OVC II.
