PC40EL25-Z Correct PN?

Posted by: Mark Nicholson on

PI Expert lists TDK PC40EL25-Z on the BOM for my design however PC40 doesn't appear to be the correct material for an EE25 Core. Please verify. PI Expert design files attached.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for considering Power Integrations in your design. Let me try to help you with your inquiry.

As I understand it, based on the attached PDF file, PI Expert suggested an EE25 with PC95 material. Or was it originally PC40, not PC95? Second, you are having difficulty acquiring the said core size (EE25) with the specified material (PC40 or PC95). Is this correct?

Thanks,
Bombadil

Hello Bombadil,

Line 27 of the BOM lists TDK part number PC40EL25-Z for the core to be used. PC40EL25-Z does not seem to be a valid TDK part number.

Hello Mark,

I see. I believe you're correct, I've checked on the TDK and I also cannot see the PC40EL25 part in their standard parts. In the attached design file, I believe the suggested part is EE25 with PC95 material but somehow the manufacturer part number got mixed up (EL25 core with PC40 material).

Can you check if you can avail of the EE25 with PC95 material? If not, perhaps you can try PC47 material for this EE25 core (PC47EE25).

In the meanwhile, I'll try to check how the part number (PC40EL25-Z) got linked to the EE25 PC95 core.

Thanks,
Bombadil
