Cannot add new transformer: Part already exists in component database

Posted by: lonerzzz on

Hello,

I am trying to add a custom transformer but no matter what I do, I am getting the message specified in the title. I have tried chaing the Part Number, Manufacturer and individual parameters without luck.

I added a capacitor and it worked fine so it seems limited to the transformers.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

How to add a custom transformer to the Component Library is described in the video on page https://ac-dc.power.com/design-support/pi-expert/pi-expert-suite/.

One typical issue can occur when the user creates a custom transformer as a copy of an existing one and has not changed the Core Type field, keeping its original and clicking OK.

Here is the recommended sequence (for PI Expert Online https://piexpertonline.power.com ):

  1. Close all open designs (File->Close)
  2. Go to start page, click on Component Library, in drop down list select Add/Edit Component Database,
  3. In Component Database window select the Transformers Tab
  4. Navigate to a transformer that will be used as a source, click “Add…” button - Transformer Parameters dialog opens
  5. Update parameters (AE, LE, etc.) if necessary
  6. Change Core Type - it must be unique for your library (add a suffix for example)
  7. Click OK to close Transformer Parameters dialog
  8. Click Close to save your changes to the database

Thank you! The unique core type was the issue and I wasn't changing it because I was only changing the number of pins on the bobbin used. It would be good if the tool indicated that the core type must be unique given that the existing core types are not.
